Save The Date!!!

The 2011 Diocesan Ultreya

Camp McDowell, January 28, 29, 30

Another outstanding Alabama Cursillo event is on the way. Theme, music, and speakers for the weekend have been selected and are written in ink. The theme is “Stuck vs. Unstuck---the truth shall set you free”. This is explained in the following paragraphs from Mike Yakonelli:

“I would like to add two words to our vocabulary of spiritual growth: stuck and unstuck. Most Christians consider being stuck a sign of failure or burnout, an indication that a person isn’t working hard enough on their spiritual life. Being stuck means getting an F on our spiritual report card The hidden assumption is, “If you are stuck in your spiritual life, you aren’t doing something right because dedicated Christians should never be stuck.”

Nothing could be more untrue.

Actually, getting stuck is the prerequisite to getting unstuck.

Getting stuck is a great moment, a summons, a call from within, the glorious music of disaffection and dissatisfaction with our place in life. We get stuck when we want to change but can’t, when we want to stop destructive behavior but don’t, when the tug-o-war between God’s will and ours stands still and we can’t move. We’re stuck going nowhere, unable to get beyond a particular point.

Getting stuck can be the best thing that could happen to us, because it forces us to stop. It halts the momentum of our lives. We have no choice but to notice what is around us, and we end up searching for Jesus. When we’re stuck, we’re much more likely to pay attention to our hunger for God and the longings and yearnings we have stifled. Sometimes being stuck is the low point (the bottom---my words) and we say, “Okay, I give up.” We cannot grow without first giving up and letting go. Getting stuck forces us to see the futility of our situation and to put life in perspective so that we can move on.”

This year’s all star line up of speakers will most certainly enlighten and inspire us as they dissect and expand the topic. Prepare to see some familiar things with new eyes, to be moved, and to laugh. Our panel consists of:

Rev. Gates Shaw, Christ Church, Fairfield

Rev. Mark Waldo, St. Michael & All Angels,Millbrook

Rev. Chris Girata, Saint Luke’s, Birmingham

And if that is not enough, music for the entire weekend will be led by

Fran McKendree and The Advent 5 O’clock Band.

Everyone remembers the electricity, excitement, and worshipful atmosphere generated by these guys last year. The musical grand finale will be a joint concert on Saturday night. They will rock the house.

This is an event which shouldn’t be missed. It will be a sell out. Please mark your calendars now and tell your friends. Details about registration will follow.

Dorothy Collier Dixon is in charge of this event. Please email questions to her at  dorothydixon@charter.net

See you there!!!
